Frankfurt, Germany

Guten Tag everyone!  After four months of cheap rice, noodles from hawker stalls with intense heat we have dived into opposite world. Welcome to dashing, freezing, expensive medieval land, where time stood still. THIS IS ….FRANKFURT!

Frankfurt, you mean the airport right? Who knew the city is the second biggest financial district in EU (London being first of course) mixed in with small humble town in one?

Coming from 6 months in the tropics, never below a gracious 27 degrees, was a mind boggling and physically challenging experience. Frankfurt was screaming "Welcome to the real world, bitches" with a consistent 10 degrees and a bundle of rain.

Once unjetlagged (I made up a word, time to call the dictionary), we ventured out and realize humans are no where to be seen in Frankfurt, and everything is closed! Did the apocalypse happen while we were sleeping? Or did Frankfurt have a Bank Holiday and legally closed all the shops for the day? You decide.

Walking around a quiet Frankfurt was something that only confirmed the humble small town feel. Frankfurt has a beautiful mixture of super slick skyscrapers and original medieval buildings on the same block. We were amazingly surprised, and spent the whole day walking and exploring. The food was such a change, we still don’t know how to stop. All the food is so fresh and straight from the farm, that we drool every time we see a bratwurst or freshly baked bread.

Ali was always in shock when a Mercedes Benz would drive by with TAXI written on it, or the fact that nudity and very fun vulgar language is a very welcome sight on cable TV. Ah newbie.

It was such a lively city, that you would never think of, and always think of Frankfurt as the "airport", the "connection". We decided to never make those assumptions again, and continue to our next Germany adventure, the Romantic Road.

Cheers,

Anna
